About the Rain Gauge

close up of the rain gauge

The rain gauge is positioned on the bank of the Mound

The rain gauge measures the amount of rain which has fallen during a measurement interval. The instrument is of the tipping bucket type, and records amount of rain by signalling each time the bucket tips for every 0.2mm of rain. Due to the capacity of the bucket, the rain gauge response is delayed after the start of very light rainfall.
